Construction on the two bridges between Lucky and Castor has made travel difficult for two years, but that will be coming to an end soon as the contractor puts the finishing touches on the $2.3 million bridge project. At 6:00 pm last night (April 13th), workers were still busy on the bridge.
Erin Buchanan, Public Information Officer of the Louisiana Department of Transportation, said the bridges were closed for repairs on April 16, 2019 due to structural conditions. Actual construction on the bridges began in April of 2020, a full year later. Construction on one of the two bridges was completed in December of 2020, and the second one is nearing completion. The bridge crew is working this week tying in the asphalt with the bridge concrete and striping the road. Ms. Buchanan said they are hoping to have the second bridge open by the end of the week, weather permitting.
According to the Weather Channel, we have an 93% chance of rain today, 16% chance of rain tomorrow, and 89% chance of rain on Friday. If this forecast is correct and the crew is unable to complete the striping, the road may reopen sometime next week.
