Angler Trio Strikes Out at Tagged Catfish Derby, Sort Of

From June 5 – June 11, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is hosting a Tagged Catfish Derby as part of the Get Out and Fish! community fishing program.  There is no cost to enter and the ponds are open to the public.  Anglers who catch and report a tagged channel catfish caught at a Get Out and Fish! site during the June 5-11 derby, will receive a fishing prize pack from LDWF. Tagged channel catfish have been stocked at 15 LDWF Get Out and Fish! ponds across Louisiana.  (see list of ponds participating in the tagged catfish derby below)

On Saturday, June 5, Bienville Parish anglers Muriel Sullivan (pictured above), Gary Dison and Brad Dison fished in the Parc Natchitoches pond.  As of yet, no ponds in Bienville Parish are included in the tagged catfish derby.  Weather forecasters predicted rain, but the trio arrived at about 9:00 a.m. and fished until about 12:30 p.m. under cloudy skies.  A cool breeze blew the whole morning and the rain held off until later that evening.  The anglers caught thirteen large channel catfish and two bream.  Unfortunately, none of the catfish were tagged, but the trio took home a mess of fish.
