The 2021 “Tales and Tails” Summer Reading Program was indeed a great success!

Even with the COVID restrictions in place, the Bienville Parish Library still had in-person events with a variety of performers that ended with the SRP Awards program on July 22 and July 23. Our total in-house attendance was 1,088 for all the performances which was phenomenal considering the Summer Reading Program was going on at the same time as summer school, sport camps, summer vacations, and Vacation Bible School programs.

Cheryl Hough, Children’s Outreach Librarian lined up a smashing list of performers beginning in June with Animalogy, The Chicken Dog Circus, Johnette Downing, and The Dallas Puppet Theater. Then in July, Geebo the Clown with his magic and amazing bubble van that spread happiness in the form of colorful bubbles where ever he and his van traveled, to the finale, The Dinosaur Experience with baby “Rexi” and young T-Rex “Nash”! Feedback from the children, parents, and grandparents was great, and everyone had a wonderful time seeing school friends and their favorite Bienville Parish Library Children’s Librarian!

The Top Readers System-Wide were honored and received their certificates of achievement!

• Braelyn Sherrill read 160 books! The requirement was 30 books for her 3 to 8-year-old age group.
• Ella Smelley read 8,497pages! The requirement was 2,000 pages for her 9 to13-year-old age group.

All the children that finished the program received their brag tags, a reading certificate, and a small prize. Each library in the system selected their Top Readers of the 2021 Summer Reading Program! Below is a list from each library of their top reader by age group!

We offer our congratulations to the children, their parents, grandparents, and caregivers that attended our performances and brought their children in to take part in the 2021 “Tales and Tails” Summer Reading Program at their neighborhood Bienville Parish Library!

For those children that would like to complete their collection of SRP “brag tags” they can continue to log books/pages and snag all 10 tags! Just keep a count in your reading log or notebook and show your librarian when you visit! See you at the Library!
