Rashid Young will officially announce his candidacy for Louisiana State Representative for District 11 at the Claiborne Parish Library on Thursday, April 13, at 5:00 p.m.
District 11 includes portions of Lincoln, Bienville, and Claiborne Parishes.
Young, who was born and raised in Homer, is a graduate of Arkansas Baptist College, Harvard Business School’s CORE Business program, and Southern University Law Center. He is an experienced educator, attorney, and community leader who is passionate about enhancing educational opportunities for children in Claiborne, Lincoln and Bienville parishes as well as throughout Louisiana.
Young has extensive experience in education, having served as a classroom teacher in District 11 and as the founding Chief Operating Officer of Lincoln Preparatory School in Grambling. He has also worked as a Law Clerk and Research Assistant for the General Counsel of the Southern University System, and as a Policy Developer and Grant Administrator for the Office of Fiscal Operations and Federal Support for the Louisiana Department of Education.
He is now an independent practicing attorney in Homer. He and his wife, Alexis Young, have four children. He’s been active in community leadership and charity work throughout the district, including leading fundraising events for local schools, providing legal workshops and working to inform residents about state and federal affordable housing initiatives to promote rural development.
Young’s campaign is focused on enhancing educational opportunities for children, increasing teacher pay and appreciation, creating and activating a business plan for growth and preservation, and prioritizing open communication with constituents. He believes that by working together, we can build a brighter and more prosperous future for our community and the State of Louisiana.
“I care about people in general and the people of this district. I care about our state, our local communities and our institutions,” said Young. “Because people have sown so much into me over the years, whether it was Grambling State University, Homer, Lincoln Prep, or members of the community – I feel an obligation to not just chase my goals but to give back to the people who make me who I am. And I believe that strong and impactful service can help our communities thrive.”
