Local Runners Qualify For LHSAA State Cross Country Championships

The Castor Tigers and Lady Tigers cross country team qualified for the LHSAA State Cross Country state championships in the Region I-V regional cross country meet that was held on Thursday, November 2 at Lincoln Parish Park in Ruston.   Along with the Castor Teams, Ringgold’s Ariel Grant also qualified in RegionI-IV regional meet.  

In order to qualify for the state meet, the team must finish in the Top 8 of their region.  The Castor boys cross country team finished third in the nine team field.   Castor Lady Tigers finished fourth in the six team regional.  

Another way that runners can qualify is by finishing in the top 25 of the regional.  This was the route that Grant qualified as she finished 24th in 25:14.43.    

Castor Sophomore Hayden Carmouche finished 5th overall in the regional race in 18:38.70.   Dakota Royer added a top 20 finish at 15th with a time of 19:19.02.  Seth Pickett, Landon Cross, and Benjamin Warren added points to Castor’s score. 

Last year LHSAA State Championship medalist Kaylie Ann Shirley was the Region I-V runner-up with a time of 21:25.55.   She was edged out by Negreet’s Ava Brown by 2 seconds.  Jenna Braggs finished in the Top 20 at 18th with a time of 24:22.68.  Other scorers for the Lady Tigers were Avery Jordan, Kimberlynn Short, and Mazzalyn Sullivan.   

The LHSAA Cross Country Meet will be held on Monday, November 13 starting at 9:00 am at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches.
