
Governor John Bel Edwards recently signed Act No. 128 which designated the third Saturday in June as Juneteenth Day, a day of public rest and legal holiday. Act 128 will become effective on August 1, 2021.
House Bill 554 was filed in the House on April 2, 2021. On June 2, the bill passed by a roll call vote, 87 yeas, 0 nays.
Five days later, the bill passed in the Senate with 37 yeas, 0 nays.
On June 10, Governor Edwards signed House Bill 554, and it became Act No. 128.
