The third week of the Bienville Parish Library’s “Tails & Tales” Summer Reading program continues with Ms. Johnette Downing. Ms. Downing is a New Orleans multi-award-winning musician, singer, and author. Many of her concerts, presentations, and programs present the deep Louisiana musical traditions as well as the complex and diverse cultural roots of the Louisiana storyteller!
Dedicated to celebrating childhood, Downing nurtures cultural exchange and fosters literacy through her music and books. She has performed for audiences all over the world. Her presentations speak to a child’s interests in an engaging, interactive, thought-provoking, educational, entertaining and culturally respectful way; earning her a reputation for being the “Musical Ambassador to Children” and the “Pied Piper of Louisiana Music Traditions.”
Johnette Downing performs “Wild and Woolly Animal Songs and Stories” for summer readers at the Bienville Parish Library June 17th and June 18th. Prepare to be interactive and lift up your voices in song with this program! Below are the program times for each library:
- Arcadia at 10:00 a.m.
- Ringgold at 2:00 p.m.
- Castor at 10:00 a.m.
- Saline at 2:00 p.m.
DON’T FORGET TO SNAG YOUR BRAG TAGS!
This is a new Summer Reading Program reward and there are ten brag tags to snag! Preventing the “summer slide” continues to be the main objective of summer reading programs. This new reading incentive gives your reader extra motivation to read and collect all ten tags. It will impress teachers with how many books/pages they read during their summer vacation!
The 2021 Summer Reading Program is designed to help:
- Children be motivated to read.
- Children develop positive attitudes about reading, books, and the library.
- Children maintain their reading skills during summer vacation.
- Children have access to experiences that further their sense of discovery.
- Children have access to experiences through which they can learn to work cooperatively.
- Most of all – HAVE FUN!
