Saline Man Takes 2nd in Hot Springs Half Marathon

On Saturday, November 13th, Saline’s 73-year-old Donald Brown took part in the 13.1 mile “Summit 2 Summit Half Marathon” in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

The marathon route led runners through the Hot Springs historic district and by the historic bath houses, into Hot Springs National Park and up to the Hot Springs Mountain/North Mountain Summit AND West Mountain Summit, hence the name Summit 2 Summit.

Rather than being a flat course, the elevation changed 510 feet as runners made their way up and over the mountains.

Mr. Brown finished 2nd place in his age group, 70 and over, with a time of 2:26:29.  Mr. Brown said, “it was a very hard race.  I ran it two years ago at 2:05:20.  [I] had the Covid in this September so I am out of shape.”

Mr. Brown is an experienced marathon runner.  He races just about every weekend and has raced in 130 half marathons so far.  Next week, Mr. Brown will be running in Log Jammer half marathon in Shreveport.

Congratulations on your win in Hot Springs, Mr. Brown, and good luck next weekend in Shreveport.  Bienville Parish will be rooting for you.
