Summer Reading Program kick-off happening this week

Turtle. Dance. Music. kicks off our 2023 “All Together Now!” Summer Reading Program! This year’s theme is centered around Kindness, Friendship, and Unity.

No matter your age, economic status, or political affiliation, your neighborhood Bienville Parish Library is the perfect place to discover new interests, and hobbies, and visit with friends and neighbors in your community.  While you’re visiting, you never know, you might make some new friends in the process!

What is Turtle. Dance. Music.
To help kids come out of their shells. The best way to do that is to get them dancing, moving, singing, laughing, learning, and connecting through the magic of music. Turtle. Dance. Music offers a variety of livestream and recorded entertainment to children of all abilities including (but not limited to) children, teens, and adults with special, sensory, and social needs.

Below is the schedule of times for the performances:

Wednesday, June 7

Gibsland at 2:00 p.m.

Thursday, June 8

Arcadia at 10:00 a.m.; Ringgold at 2:00 p.m.

Friday, June 9
Castor Events Center at 10:00 a.m.; Saline at 2:00 p.m.

Traditionally, summer reading programs are designed to encourage elementary-aged children to keep reading during summer vacation. Children, parents/guardians, and older siblings visit the library, pick out their books, and start reading and collecting their “brag tags”!

When you register for the Summer Reading Program you’ll pick up all the materials you’ll need to get started, and “snag” your first brag tag!  Preventing the “summer slide” continues to be the main objective of summer reading programs. This reading incentive gives readers extra motivation to read and collect all ten tags. It will impress teachers with how many books/pages they read during their summer vacation!

The 2023 Summer Reading Program is designed to help:

  • Children be motivated to read.
  • Children develop positive attitudes about reading, books, and the library.
  • Children maintain their reading skills during summer vacation.
  • Children have access to experiences that further their sense of discovery.
  • Children have access to experiences through which they can learn to work cooperatively.
  • Most of all – HAVE FUN!

Look for the Pull & Post Fridge Flyer in the Bienville Parish Library Event Guide for times and a list of performers. You’ll also find all you need to know at your Bienville Parish Library website at .
