Wreck causes power outage in Arcadia; repairs still underway

An 18-wheeler wreck had motorists scrambling for alternate routes around town Monday, Jan. 22 following a crash that took out a utility pole near Gibsland Bank and Trust.

The wreck occurred around lunchtime, where the driver of the 18-wheeler attempted to make a left-hand turn onto 2nd Street from the shoulder, which caused it to hit the box truck, Arcadia Police Chief Ciera Murphy said. The box truck lost control, which caused it to strike the pole and roll over.

While it took wreckers approximately two hours to remove both vehicles from lanes of traffic, Entergy was in place replacing the utility pole that knocked out electricity to some, while phones to others.

The electric company spent hours well into the evening in the cold and rain replacing the pole that was snapped in half due to the crash impact.

As of press time, the investigation into the crash remained ongoing, but Murphy said a citation is pending.
