A search is underway for a Ringgold man who reportedly crashed his vehicle into a wooded area on Cousins Rd. in Dubberly and escaped on foot after attempting to flee the scene of a traffic stop early Monday morning.

Minden Chief of Police Jared McIver said the suspect, 35-year old Nicholas Sims, ran into the woods after the accident and has managed to elude capture. McIver said Sims should be considered armed and dangerous.

According to MPD Det. Lt. Kenneth James, passengers in the suspect’s vehicle said he retrieved a handgun before running into the stretch of woods.  Drones reportedly were deployed in an attempt to locate the suspect, but with no success.

MPD Officer Cadyn O’Connor reportedly initiated a traffic stop sometime after 2 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Hwy. 531 and Industrial Dr. For reasons still under investigation, Sims reportedly raced away with officers in pursuit.

Investigators said Sims’ vehicle left the roadway on Cousins Rd. near the old Dubberly airport. Sims reportedly will be charged on a warrant for aggravated flight from an officer. Other charges reportedly could be filed the outcome of the investigation.
