Property transfers, tax bill reminder from the Parish Assessor’s Office

As tax bills are mailed out and property continues to be bought and sold across Bienville Parish, the Bienville Parish Assessor’s Office wants to remind all buyers, sellers, and notaries of an important step in the process: ensure that property taxes are paid at the time deeds are filed.

Too often, tracts of land are lost in tax sales year after year simply because taxes were overlooked during the transfer process. Once ownership changes hands, it can be unclear who is responsible for payment, and unpaid taxes can quickly lead to penalties, interest, and even a loss of the property at a future tax sale. For anyone involved in a property transaction, whether buying, selling, or filing paperwork, take the time to confirm that the current year’s taxes are paid in full.

When in doubt, call the Bienville Parish Tax Collector’s Office or Assessor’s Office for guidance. Protect the investment, and don’t let a preventable oversight cause the loss of property.
