Assessor’s Office offers guidance on home construction projects

The Bienville Parish Assessor’s Office has provided guidance on what individuals who are starting new home construction projects need to do to stay compliant and avoid delays.

One of the most important tasks is getting one’s 911 address. Every new structure with power requires a new address. Using an old address from a demolished structure can cause serious issues during an emergency. To get that 911 address, contact the 911 Director at 318-263-7434.

Next, notify the Assessor’s Office. Once the home owner receives the Address Permit, call the Assessor’s Office at 318-263-2214. This begins the New Construction process in their office.

Getting the septic permit follows. The Bienville Parish Health Unit can assist with septic permits: 318-263-2125.

Another critical step is getting the building permit. The Bienville Parish Police Jury issues building permits: 318-263-2019. Permits are important because they ensure that the project meets zoning rules, safety regulations, and environmental requirements, protecting the owner, the property, and first responders.

There is also some important tax and assessment information to keep handy.

• Projects completed before Jan. 1 are added to that year’s tax roll.
• Projects finished after Jan. 1 will be assessed the following year.
• After assessment, the tax bill is based on the home’s value and area millage rates.
• Tax payments are made to the Bienville Parish Sheriff’s Office and are due Dec. 31 of each year.
