First aid training provided for Bienville Parish Sheriff’s deputies is credited with saving the life of a Gibsland man on the night of March 29, 2022.
At approximately 11:30 PM, dispatchers received a 911 call that a male subject had received a cut to his wrist and was in need of immediate medical treatment.
Lt. Dyes arrived on scene on Cedar Street approximately three minutes after the 911 call and located the subject bleeding profusely from his right wrist.
Lt. Dyes immediately applied a tourniquet to the affected area at which time Deputies Longo and Madden arrived on scene.
The deputies additionally applied field dressings to the wound to further control the bleeding until paramedics with Pafford Ambulance arrived on scene.
The patient was carried by ambulance to Ochsner’s LSU Health Shreveport where he was taken immediately into surgery.
EMS personnel stated had it not been for the immediate medical attention he received at the scene, the outcome would likely have been much different for the victim.
