Saline Varsity Bobcats stole the lead late in the game in a 10-4 victory over Huntington High School on Friday. The game was tied at four with Saline Varsity Bobcats batting in the bottom of the fifth when Braxton Davis singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
Huntington High School scored three runs in the fifth inning, but Saline Varsity Bobcats still managed to pull out the victory. The offensive onslaught by Huntington High School was led by #11, #5, and #1, who all drove in runs.
Saline Varsity Bobcats got on the board in the first inning. Shawn Staggs drove in one when Staggs singled.
Saline Varsity Bobcats scored four runs in the sixth inning. The rally was led by singles by Bray Corley, Jacob Jones, and Staggs.
Bryce Davis got the start for Saline Varsity Bobcats. The pitcher went four innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out three.
#5 started the game for Huntington High School. The pitcher lasted six innings, allowing eight hits and ten runs while striking out five.
Saline Varsity Bobcats tallied eight hits. Jones and Staggs all managed multiple hits for Saline Varsity Bobcats. Staggs and Jones all had two hits to lead Saline Varsity Bobcats. Saline Varsity Bobcats stole eight bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Jones led the way with four.
#1 led Huntington High School with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with eight stolen bases.
Monday, April 3
Saline Varsity Bobcats watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 13-0 loss to Montgomery on Monday. Montgomery scored on an error in the first inning.
The Saline Varsity Bobcats struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Montgomery, giving up 13 runs.
Montgomery got things moving in the first inning. An error scored one run for Montgomery.
One bright spot for Saline Varsity Bobcats was a single by Landon Horsfall in the second inning.
#12 led things off on the hill for Montgomery. The fireballer went five innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out five and walking one.
Jacob Jones started the game for Saline Varsity Bobcats. Jones lasted two innings, allowing three hits and seven runs while striking out two. Kenton Lee Crawford threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Horsfall led Saline Varsity Bobcats with one hit in two at bats.
Montgomery collected eight hits. #1 and #22 each managed multiple hits for Montgomery.
