Local softball and baseball teams make the LHSAA playoffs

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) announced the softball playoff brackets this past Thursday.

Three local softball teams made the cut for Division V non-select playoffs for the 2023 season. Each team played their first-round game on Monday, April 17.

The number 13 seed, the Saline Lady Bobcats played the number 20 team, Maurepas, at home. The Lady Bobcats lost 13-26.

The number 23 seed, the Castor Lady Tigers played number 10, Calvin, on their home field on Monday. This was a very emotional and somber game played the day after the Calvin softball team learned of the passing of their head coach, Chad Camp. Calvin won the game in honor of their coach, 13-3.

After not having a softball team for the last 20 years and playing a remarkable first season, the Gibsland-Coleman Lady Bulldogs made the playoffs in the number 26 spot. They traveled to face the number 7 seed, the Stanley Panthers. Unfortunately, they were shut out, losing 15-0.

The LHSAA released the brackets for the high school baseball playoffs yesterday, April 18. They are doing this a little differently this year. Divisions I-III will be playing all playoff rounds as a Best of 3 series.

The Saline Bobcats and Castor Tigers were the only Bienville Parish team to progress to the playoffs this season in the Division V non-select group.

The Bobcats are sitting in the number 19 spot and will travel to Desoto Parish tomorrow, April 20, to play the number 14 seed, the Stanley Panthers. The game will begin at 5 p.m.

The number 24 team, the Castor Tigers, will be playing number 9, Bell City, at Bell City tomorrow, as well. That game will begin at 4:30 p.m.
