The Bienville Parish School Board approved a resolution in May’s meeting to declare a ‘State of Emergency’ for the Ringgold School Complex following the damage caused by storms in April.
Superintendent of Schools William Wysinger said the resolution is necessary to see if they can get state funding to help defray the costs of repairs. Although the board has insurance, this could be a way to speed up the process.
“We met this morning (Thursday) with our insurance adjuster and some contractors and they gave us a breakdown of some of the things that need to be done,” Wysinger said. “We’re still not sure exactly what it’s going to cost yet, but the insurance adjuster is handling all of that. They’re putting a temporary roof on (Ringgold School Complex) and they should be finished with that today (May 4).”
On April 15, the Ringgold School Complex sustained heavy damage from a severe storm that moved through the area closing the school and causing disruption with class schedules.
Water damage was caused inside the school resulting from the removal of the roof at the school from the storm.
The school board is quickly beginning repairs to the school, which will include a new roof, and the purchase of new furniture, fixtures, supplies, equipment and materials related to the repair of the school.
In other news, the school board passed a resolution declaring May 8-12 as Employee Appreciation Week, on behalf of the BPSB, “parents and children, we declare our appreciation to our employees for making our schools a success by caring and giving
so much of yourself. We truly appreciate your efforts.”
The next meeting of the Bienville Parish School Board will be Thursday, June 1, at the school board annex, located at 1956 First Street in Arcadia.
