Both Gibsland-Coleman and Castor High School track teams traveled to Baton Rouge to participate in the LHSAA State Track Meet held at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium, May 4-6.
Last year, the Gibsland-Coleman Bulldogs finished as state runner-up, while the Lady Bulldogs secured the State Championship title. They switched things up this year with the boys taking home the win and the girls earning a state-runner up placing.
Samora Sampson also earned herself the Class C ‘Most Outstanding Athlete’ for the second consecutive year.
The Castor Tigers and Lady Tigers also traveled to Baton Rouge last week. The boys team took home a state-runner up finish in Class B. While the girls did not earn an overall placing they had a few who earned medals.
Boys Team:
High Jump: Jamarion Clark – 2nd
Javelin: Johnathan Warren- 3rd
Long Jump: DeAndre Clark- 2nd
Pole Vault: Brendon Cox- 2nd; Seth Pickett- 3rd
Shot Put: Dawson Wood- 3rd
Triple Jump: Jamarion Clark- 1st; Austin Cooper – 3rd
Jamarion Clark was named the Class B Top Athlete in the field events and the team as a whole earned a state-runner up finish.
Girls Team:
Javelin: Ambree Collinsworth- 1st
Pole Vault: Anna Kate Myers- 2nd; Jenna Braggs- 3rd
