Castor and Gibsland-Coleman place at state track meet

Both Gibsland-Coleman and Castor High School track teams traveled to Baton Rouge to participate in the LHSAA State Track Meet held at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium, May 4-6.

Last year, the Gibsland-Coleman Bulldogs finished as state runner-up, while the Lady Bulldogs secured the State Championship title. They switched things up this year with the boys taking home the win and the girls earning a state-runner up placing.

Boys Team:
100m: Demarquis Durham – 2nd; Deavery Durham – 3rd
 
200m: Demarquis Durham – 1st; Deavery Durham 2nd
 
400m: Terrance James – 2nd; Joshua Adams – 7th
 
800m: Rictaviour Harris – 5th
 
1600m: Rictavious Harris – 4th
 
110m Hurdles: Michael Woodford – 4th
 
300m Hurdles: Michael Woodford – 6th
 
4×100: 1st – Deavery Durham, Carlos Rudolph, Devery Moore Jr.,Demarquis Durham
 
4×200: 1st – Demarquis Durham, Dadrail Chatman, Carlos Rudolph, Deavery Durham
 
4×400: 1st – Rictavious Harris, Dadrail Chatman, Terrance James, Joshua Adams
 
High Jump: Terrance James – 2nd
Long Jump: Michael Woodford – 4th
Triple Jump: Brian Wright – 2nd; Michael Woodford – 3rd
 
Girls Team:
 
200m: CaRiya Lewis – 4th
 
800m: Taraji Allen – 8th
 
1600m: Taraji Allen – 7th
 
100m Hurdles: Samora Sampson – 1st; Jordan Allen 3rd
 
300m Hurdles: Jordan Allen – 1st; Arianna Williams 8th
 
4×100: 2nd – Samora Sampson, Ca’Riya Lewis, Baleigh Haulcy, Shamaria Durham
 
4×200: 4th – Arianna Williams, Don’Shayla Rushing, Baleigh Haulcy, Ca’Riya Lewis
 
4×400: 7th – Taraji Allen, Don’Shayla Rushing, Aerial Jenkins, Jordan Allen
 
Discus: Jennifer Smith – 7th
 
High Jump: Jordan Allen – 3rd
 
Long Jump: Samora Sampson – 1st
 
Triple Jump: Samora Sampson – 1st; Baleigh Haulcy – 3rd
 
Samora Sampson also earned herself the Class C ‘Most Outstanding Athlete’ for the second consecutive year.  
 

The Castor Tigers and Lady Tigers also traveled to Baton Rouge last week. The boys team took home a state-runner up finish in Class B. While the girls did not earn an overall placing they had a few who earned medals.

Boys Team:

High Jump: Jamarion Clark – 2nd

Javelin: Johnathan Warren- 3rd

Long Jump: DeAndre Clark- 2nd

Pole Vault: Brendon Cox- 2nd; Seth Pickett- 3rd

Shot Put: Dawson Wood- 3rd

Triple Jump: Jamarion Clark- 1st; Austin Cooper – 3rd

Jamarion Clark was named the Class B Top Athlete in the field events and the team as a whole earned a state-runner up finish.

Girls Team:

Javelin: Ambree Collinsworth- 1st

Pole Vault: Anna Kate Myers- 2nd; Jenna Braggs- 3rd
